How to Vote on 22nd January: Your Guide to Making Your Voice Count

Updated: Nov 21, 2025

On 22nd January, Kampala decides its future.

This is your moment. Your City, Your Say.

Whether it’s your first time voting or you simply want a quick refresher, this guide will help you understand exactly what to do on Election Day so your vote counts and your voice is heard.

All you need to vote is a National Identification Number (NIN). Meaning if you have an ID you can make the right choice for Kampala Capital City.

1. Check Your Voting Location Early

-The deadline is for changing details-

Before 22nd January, confirm your polling station using any of these options:

Online

Visit ec.or.ug/register to confirm your information online.

Offline

  • Look at your Voter Location Slip (VLS)

  • Check your name at your nearest polling station display list

  • Ask your area campaign team or local leaders for guidance

Knowing your station early prevents confusion and saves you time on Election Day.

2. Arrive Early on 22nd January

Polling stations open in the morning and close in the evening, but don’t wait until the last minute.

Arrive early so you vote comfortably and avoid unnecessary queues.

Bring:

  • Your National ID

  • Your Voter Location Slip (if you have it)

You will be allowed to vote even if you don’t have the slip, as long as you are on the register.

3. Join the Queue and Wait for Your Turn

When you arrive:

  • Join the line for your polling station

  • Stay calm and patient

  • Follow instructions from the officials

No one is allowed to disrupt, intimidate, or influence you — your vote is private and protected.

4. Verify Your Identity

When you reach the front:

  • Present your National ID

  • The polling official checks your name on the register

  • They will confirm you and hand you the ballot paper

Make sure the ballot paper is stamped — this is important.

5. Mark Your Choice Clearly

Inside the voting booth:

  • Look for the Lord Mayor ballot paper

  • Find the candidate you support

  • Tick or mark once, clearly, inside the box next to their photo and symbol

A clean, simple mark ensures your vote is counted correctly.

6. Fold Your Ballot Properly

After marking:

  • Fold your ballot as instructed

  • Ensure your choice is not visible

  • Do not show your vote to anyone

Your vote is secret. Protect it.

7. Cast Your Vote

Drop the ballot into the correct ballot box.

Listen carefully to the officials so you use the right box — each position has its own.

When your ballot enters the box, your vote becomes your voice.

8. Leave or Stay Nearby Calmly

After voting, you may:

  • Leave and continue your day

    or

  • Stay peacefully around the polling station to observe (as long as you keep a respectful distance)

No chaos, no tension — the power is in your hands already.

Why Your Vote Matters

22nd January is more than a date.

It is the day you choose the Kampala you want — the services you deserve, the leadership you trust, and the future you believe in.

Every vote shapes the city’s direction.

Every vote is a statement.

Every vote is power.

And on 22nd January, your power becomes your say.
