Beatrice Mao is a candidate for the Kampala Lord Mayoral elections in 2026, representing the Democratic Party (DP). She is a Christian, wife, mother, and farmer specialising in Coffee Plus, and promotes East Africa to Europe through commercial diplomacy.

Beatrice lived abroad, most notably in England for three decades and has since returned, now focused on serving Kampala. Her platform includes better infrastructure, improved waste management, affordable housing, education and sports, job creation, and empowering women and youth with entrepreneurial skills.
She believes that every move she made during the three decades spent in England was preparation for this moment to return home and make meaningful change.

Her plans for waste management include:
Community Engagement:
Establish a Waste Management Committee comprising local leaders, residents, and experts. Conduct quarterly town hall meetings to address concerns and share progress.
Segregation at Source:
Distribute colour-coded bins in every division, green for organic waste, blue for recyclables and black for non-recyclables to households and businesses. Train drivers and division community leaders to educate residents on proper waste segregation.
Private Sector Partnerships:
Invite tenders for waste-to-energy projects, targeting 10MW of electricity generation. Develop a framework for corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Recycling Facilities:
Partner with private investors to build two state-of-the-art recycling plants, creating over 1,000 jobs. Process 30% of Kampala’s recyclable waste within the first year.
Composting:
Establish over 10 community composting centres serving more than 50,000 households. Offer incentives to farmers who use compost, boosting local agriculture.
Efficient Collection:
Increase waste collection frequency to three times a week in residential areas and five times a week in commercial zones. Implement a mobile app for reporting waste issues and tracking collection schedules.
Create Public Awareness:
Launch a monthly Clean Kampala campaign, engaging 20,000 residents in clean-up drives. Collaborate with schools to integrate waste management education.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
20% reduction in waste within the first year
50% increase in recycling rates
80% of residents report satisfaction with waste management
